Even though CinemaCom 2016 is over, it continues to dominate the entertainment news. Sony took this as the opportunity to reveal that its The Emoji Movie now has a story line. Sony Pictures Animation President, Kristine Belson, revealed that:

Inside your phone, there’s a secret world– and we enter through the text app where we discover Emoji Valley, where the industrious Emoji live and work.

Belson went on to explain that the story will be told through using real-world mobile apps and used the example of characters riding boars on a stream, which represents mobile music-streaming.

Although that isn’t much of a plot to go on, it’s at least a taste of what we can expect from this interesting project from Sony.

Spotify, the music streaming app, has signed a deal with Sony Pictures Animation to tie directly into the plot of the movie to feature as a mobile app.

These small pictures used to express your emotions in our increasingly digital age are very popular with an emoji being the 2015 word of the year, Kim Kardashian having her own set of emoji and millions of people using them across the globe every day. It was bound to happen that a movie gets made about them too.

Sony confirmed that the script for the movie will be written by Anthony Leondis and Eric Siegel. The movie is set for release in August 2017. Expect more details in the coming months.
