Disney released its second quarterly numbers for 2016 in which it was revealed that the company is no longer a big player in the self-publishing video gaming industry. The company is planning on bowing out, starting with discontinuing the Disney Infinity series.

This doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to ever play Disney games again. It merely means that Disney will no longer be publishing video games in-house. The company will continue to license out its characters, story-lines, brand, etc to be developed into video games, but these will be out-sourced.

It’s going to be a costly cancellation with the company having to fork out $147 million to cancel this division. But it’s not like the Walt Disney Company is struggling based on the numbers from its second quarter in 2016. The company boasted a 2.1$ billion income for its second quarter ending April 2016. The company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Iger stated that the company is “very pleased” with its second quarter 2016 financial results and goes on to state that:

Our Studio’s unprecedented winning streak at the box office underscores the incredible appeal of our branded content, which we continue to leverage across the entire company to drive significant value. Looking forward, we are thrilled with the Studio’s slate and tremendously excited about the June 16th grand opening of the spectacular Shanghai Disney Resort.
