If you’re keen to get some playing time on this new game from Blizzard Entertainment, then you’re in luck as there is an Overwatch open beta running from 05 to 09 May 2016.
This means that everyone will be able to try out Overwatch before its official release on 24 May 2016 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. You’ll be able to take part of this open beta without having to sign up or pre-order the game. But if you pre-ordered the game before 29 April 2016, the developer has decided to reward you with an early access to the open beta which starts today (03 May 2016). As a further bonus this early access to the open beta includes an invite for a friend.
Overwatch director, Jeff Kaplan explains that this open beta is so important because by opening the game up to a wider community it will increase sales and hype before its official release, because its such a cool game to play. Kaplan goes on to explain that:
Overwatch is a team game. There is nothing more enjoyable than playing with other people.
You can choose from a variety of cool and unique heroes, each possessing their own set of skills and talents. You’re tasked with mastering and fine-tuning each heroes specific set of skills so that you can unlock their full potential. You’ll be able to play with all 21 Overwatch heroes when you take part in the open beta, including Symmetra, Zarya, Hanzo, Mei and Tracer.
Being a complete open beta, you’ll also be able to play with all the maps that will be in the full Overwatch game officially releasing later.
Soldiers. Scientists. Adventurers. Oddities.
In a time of global crisis, an international task force of heroes banded together to restore peace to a war-torn world:
It ended the crisis and helped to maintain peace in the decades that followed, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery. But after many years, Overwatch’s influence waned, and it was eventually disbanded.
Overwatch is gone… but the world still needs heroes.
