Samsung Brazil released an featuring the Samsung Galaxy smart surfboard concept which was specifically designed and developed with Brazilian pro-surfer Gabriel Medina in mind. And if you were thinking of using it to improve your skills then you might be out of luck with Samsung claiming that its smart surfboard concept is “in no way intended for amateur surfing or for leisure activities“. Samsung Brazil came up with the concept after identifying that professional surfers struggle to receive proper instructions from their trainers they’re about 100 meters away from each other.
At first glance, it would be difficult to spot that the surfboard was any different except that its really sleek looking. But when you look closer you notice the LED display and a slot in the smart surfboard to insert a Samsung Galaxy S7. This LED display is responsible for facilitating communication between the surfer and his couch. This LED display can even be used to stream messages of encouragement from a Twitter Feed as shown in the ad for the concept. The LED screen would able to receive and project other valuable surf information like the conditions of the sea, the direction of the wind and the wave behaviour.
Although it’s merely a concept and one which will probably never make it onto the commercial market, we love that personal technology is expanding beyond our smartphones. When it comes to personal technology and gadgets, the possibilities are endless and we’re excited to see companies like Samsung thinking of innovative ways to get the best out of tech.
