Helen told Elle
I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I’m about to do [Fast 8]. But that’s for the fun of it. So maybe that’s what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies.
It has been reported that Helen Mirren will actually play the villain in the film, and her involvement will go deeper than a simple cameo.
In other Fast 8 news, a new featurette was released for the upcoming film which shows a pretty big scene being filmed called “Zombie Cars”. The scene, which you can see below, sees a ton of cars, literally, falling from a parking lot, onto a massive 40-car pileup on the street below. Special effects supervisor, J.D. Schwalm explains the scene in detail:
We have seven cars falling from the parking structure, and each one of them is aiming at a motorcade here. We have to pull these cars at an exact speed, and we’re doing that using the winch on the crane. Each car comes out in succession to land on the vehicles on the road here. Obviously, there’s no one in them because they’re about to be impaled by 3000-pound lawn darts.
A total of $17 million worth of cars are being used for the film, making it the biggest cost in any of the Fast and Furious films to date. You can see the behind the scenes in a second featurette below.
Fast 8 is planned to open in cinemas worldwide on 14 April 2017.
