Ilvermorny is the North American School of Magic which is a prominent feature in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie hitting theatres soon.
Writer and creator of the magical Harry Potter world, J.K. Rowling, has released the second instalment in a collection of new original writing called History of Magic in North America.
The new collection of writing is meant to buildup a background story for the upcoming movie. The new writing, entitled Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, has an accompanying short video and provides lots of details for the upcoming movie. The magical school dates back to the 17th century and is located at the peak of Mount Greylock in Massachusetts, USA. The story of Ilvermorny starts off with in Ireland where Salazar Slytherin‘s (Hogwarts co-founder) descendant escapes her evil aunt and lands up in Massachusetts. All this orphaned girl has in this strange new land are the clothes on her back and a stolen wand. She is left to fend for herself and braves the wilderness where she comes into contact with other magical creators. Through her fearless and independent searchings and survival she embarks on the adventure which ends up in the establishment of Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
In addition to the second piece in the History of Magic in North America series, fans can for the first time be sorted into one of the four houses of Ilvermorny. The Sorting Ceremony consists of answering questions compiled by J.K. Rowling. Your answers will determine which one of the four houses you’ll be sorted into. The four houses of Ilvermorny are:
- Horned Serpent: great horned river serpent with a jewel set into its forehead;
- Pukwudgie: a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature;
- Thunderbird: a creature that ‘can create storms as it flies; and
- Wampus: a magical, panther-like creature that is fast, strong and almost impossible to kill.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will mark J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut and was directed by David Yates. The movie is set in 1926 and follows the magical adventures of Newt Scamandar (portrayed by Eddie Redmayne) who is a mischievous magizoologist.
The movie is set for release in November 2016.
