After a game poster leaked this past week, Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios have officially revealed Injustice 2, the sequel to the smash fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us. The reveal took place around the web both on Warner Bros. Interactive’s YouTube channel and on the PlayStation Blog. The game has been in the works since 2014, and it is said to be bigger and better than its predecessor in every way.

The game will feature new characters from the DC Universe, as well as new environments, and a brand new level of destruction on each of them. One of the biggest new features is the new Gear System which lets players build their own version of their favourite DC fighter. The Gear System uses RPG mechanics to reward you with loot drops every time you play the game and complete set objectives and matches. You will earn character-specific gear and outfits, as well as slowly power-up your entire roster of fighter along the way.
Gear will be specific to certain stats. Choosing the right gear depending on the match, will be important to winning. While you play the game, your entire roster of villains and heroes will slowly begin to reflect your own play style and preferences. The Gear System goes as deep as to making each player’s fighters customizable so that none look the same as others you fight online.
The game will also pick up the story from when last we saw the characters. Superman was imprisoned in a Red Sun prison cell, while Batman was fighting against the forces that would try to free Superman, putting him back in power. Injustice 2 will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2017. We expect to see in-game footage at E3 next week.
