Vu Bui posted on the official Minecraft blog, that the movie will be releasing in 3D and IMAX on 25 May 2019:

Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome. And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?

The movie will be produced and published by Warner Bros. and directed by Rob McElhenney, the man behind the hilarious TV show, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The story will come directly from Mojang – the studio behind the Minecraft series. We have no idea yet what the plot will be and it is a bit early to speculate it. We already know that the movie will target PG 13 viewers and will be based on a live action version of the series where people will be entering the world of Minecraft.

With the series being so versatile, we doubt the movie will be holding back any punches. Minecraft has taken the world by storm since its original release back in 2009, and since then has received hundreds of skin packs relating to popular pop culture.
