Star Trek is turning 50 years old and to celebrate the long and successful run of the popular franchise, Barbie-maker, Mattel has announced that it will be launching a set of official Star Trek Barbie dolls.
The set will consist of three dolls – Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock and Lieutenant Uhura – and will form part off the Barbie Collection Series. The Barbie Collection Series is aimed at adult Barbie doll collectors instead of being toys, but no one will judge you if you do end up re-enacting some of your favourite scenes.
We love that the Mr. Spock Barbie doll is rocking his signature Vulcan salute and has his awesome Vulcan eyebrows. The Captain Kirk Barbie doll will have a communicator and phaser. Lieutenant Uhura is wearing a retro tricorder over her shoulder and also has a communicator.
This is not the first set of Star Trek Barbie dolls, with Mattel having released a set of 30th anniversary Barbie doll sets to celebrate the series. This set only consisted of Barbie and Ken doll in Star Trek uniform.
The original Star Trek series ran from 1966 to 1969 and since then the franchise has become a pop culture phenomenon, with the new Star Trek movie, Star Trek Beyond set for release in late July 2016. And to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this fantastic franchise, the movie will feature 50 different alien species.
