During San Diego Comic Con this past weekend, Niantic CEO John Hanke, and Nerdist founder Chris Hardwick, sat down to chat about Pokémon GO updates in the future. A couple of questions were thrown around, while most of them related to the game’s servers issues at launch. Here are some of the Pokémon GO updates planned for the future.

New Pokémon

Hanke spoke about the possibility of new Pokémon hitting the game soon. He said that beyond the first generation, there are others he would like to add to the game. Pokémon is now on its 6th generation of creatures, hitting its 7th when Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon release in November. It seems that Niantic will be adding each generation to the game at a gradual pace. This mean that gen 2 will release sometime in the next few months, and feature Pokémon like Totodile, Chicorita and Suicune.

Modifying PokéStops

Hanke briefly touched on the idea of modifying PokéStops. He said that they are an important factor in the game and it would be interesting to give players other ways to modify the function of the PokéStop. What he means with this, we have no idea as of yet, but we could imagine that different Lure Modules could be released to lure specific Pokémon to the PokéStop for example.

Trading And Breeding

If you have played any Pokémon game on the Nintendo 3DS, DS, Game Boy, or anything of the liking, you will know that Pokémon trading is a massive feature in the game, as well as breeding. This allows you to trade Pokémon with anyone around the world to rack up your collection and “Catch em All”. Hanke discussed the feature being available soon on Pokémon GO, saying that both breeding and Pokémon trading, is something the team are discussing. These Pokémon GO updates are apparently in the works and we’re excited to start trading especially.

Team Leaders

We are all part of a team in the game, and during the panel, Hanke revealed the leaders of each team as part of the first Pokémon GO updates. The leaders consist of two females and one man, controlling each team. Once these Pokémon GO updates roll out you will see Candela is the leader of Team Valor, Blanche is the leader of Team Mysic, and Spark is the leader of Team Instinct. What these leaders will be used for, or what purpose they hold, is still unclear, but we will know in the future what Niantic’s plan is for them once it starts pushing out Pokémon GO updates.
