Today we celebrate some gaming females to mark National Women’s Day. These gaming females created some of the greatest video game franchises in the industry and it’s thanks to their phenomenal work that we can sit and play through the games.

Rhianna Pratchett

There is nothing better than a good reboot, and when Tomb Raider was rebooted back in 2012, we had Rhianna Pratchett to thank for it. This award winning writer and author has been responsible for quite a few titles like Mirror’s Edge, Heavenly Sword, and the latest Tomb Raider series, Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Rhianna Prachett has worked alongside some of the greatest studios in the world, as well overseen some cool comic book series too.

Amy Hennig

Amy Hennig started way back on the NES, directing a little game called Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City. She went onto being part of one of the greatest video game franchises in the industry, Legacy of Kain, as series writer and director.

Amy was the initial game director of the Uncharted series, directing the first title, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, as well as the second, third and fourth title in the series. She is now part of Visceral Games, working on the latest Star Wars title in the series.

Jade Raymond

She was the founder of the massive Electronic Arts’s Motive Studios, and the founder of Ubisoft Toronto. Since then she has left both studios and moved onto overseeing Visceral Games studio, the studio behind the latest Star Wars video game with Amy Hennig at the helm.

Jade Raymond is one of the younger gaming females but has already achieved so much.

Jennifer Hale

We are pretty sure you have heard of Jennifer Hale once or twice in your life, that is because she is one of the most recognisable gaming females in terms of voice-over work. She has worked on some of the biggest games over the past decade like Metal Gear Solid, Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic, Bioshock Infinite, Mass Effect and more. Not only is she a phenomenal video game voice artist, but she has also spread her voice into TV shows like The Powerpuff Girls, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and The Last Airbender.

Jennifer Hales is also one of the more controversial gaming females and has broken free from many moulds. She played a trans-man character in Dragon Age: Inquisition. She also played the first female Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 3, making it the first time you could play as a female lead in the game.

Kellee Santiago

There are games which change the way we look at things, and then there are those which completely set the bar for art direction in video games. Kellee Santiago has been behind most of these games over the past few years. Heading up one of the best video game studios in the world, thatgamecompany, she has overseen projects like Flow and Journey.
