If you haven’t heard yet, there are new Ghostbusters in town. 20 years later and this popular franchise finally gets a reboot fans have been begging for. Although you’re going to get the usual nay-sayers, Ghostbusters went beyond our expectations. From the fantastically funny female lead cast to the storyline and special effects, Ghostbusters brought back a franchise that has been stagnant for far too long.

The new Ghostbusters movie sees Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon take over from the original cast. Ghosts are appearing all over New York and two ex-science partners and friends are reunited to find out what the cause is. They are joined by a (possibly mad) gadget genius and tough New Yorker who knows her way around the Big Apple. They become the new Ghostbusters who are entrusted with saving the world from all sorts ghosts, ghouls and lots of gross slime.

The choice in casting was genius. The comedic timing and chemistry between these four Ghostbusting babes is fun to watch and you’ll find yourself laughing a lot. This is not the first time these four funny actresses have worked together, and it shows. They look and work great together and we couldn’t have asked for a better combination of cool cast members. Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are especially hilarious together and they had some of the best moments on-screen in the new Ghostbusters movie.

Melissa McCarthy as Abby Yates, a physicist with a passion to find ghosts, is ridiculously funny and witty. You immediately also feel a strong sense of leadership from Abby who is the founding member of the new Ghostbusters team. Melissa McCarthy can have you laughing from the moment she appears on-screen until the end-credits start rolling. Abby is a strong believer in the existence of paranormal activity and has always been proud of her support for the supernatural. But Abby has also been pushed around and made fun of and you instantly root for her success as the underdog. She is sure to be one of your favourite new Ghostbusters, with Leslie Jones claiming that Abby Yates is her favourite character in the new Ghostbusters.

New Ghostbusters

Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert is a little more reluctant to be one of the new Ghostbusters. Her passion for pursuing the paranormal soon flames up again when she is reunited with her long-time friend, partner and fellow believer, Abby Yates. Kristen Wiig delivers a solid portrayal of a physics genius who is trying to find her way, while being forced into a life of Ghostbusting and being the laughing-stock of the scientific community. She represents the choice many have to make between fearlessly following their dreams, or having a stable, yet maddeningly mundane career.

Leslie Jones plays the role of subway worker, Patty Tolan. She is severely under-appreciated for her sunny disposition and her insanely detailed knowledge of New York at her job at a subway station. She is the least qualified in terms of academia as one of the new Ghostbusters, but the most qualified in terms of experience. Patty proves that schools aren’t the only places you can learn things.

Kate McKinnon becomes the insanely smart, yet slightly nuts Jillian Holtzman. She is in charge (no pun intended) of creating all of the gadgets the new Ghostbusters use. She is one of those characters that is portrayed so well by Kate McKinnon that you wonder whether she is this wonderfully wacky in real-life too. The actress admitted that Jillian is the closest character she’s ever played to her personality.

The new Ghostbusters movie delivers a fantastic sensory experience, especially if you’re watching it in 3D. The ghosts, ghouls, Slimers and other paranormal creatures look ridiculously real. You’re truly transported to a different dimension and fans of the franchise will be excited to find many hidden Easter eggs and homage paid to the classic. We’re treated with appearances by some of the cast from the original movies, including the legendary Bill Murray.

If you’re a fan of the original franchise then you’re likely to enjoy the new Ghostbusters. If you’re new to these hilarious hunters of the supernatural, then you’ll probably become an instant fan of the new Ghostbusters.

This new Ghostbusters movie is hilarious to say the least and you’re going to be laughing lots. There are some cheesy scenes, but that’s to be expected from an essentially family friendly franchise. The comedic chemistry flows naturally between the new Ghostbusters and nothing ever felt forced or overly awkward. It’s hard to fault these funny, fearless females and we’re keen to see more from these new Ghostbusters.
