If you’re a Pokémon GO cheater, then you might be on the list to receive a permanent ban from Niantic Labs. The company updated its ToS (Terms of Service) over the past weekend, highlighting new regulations when playing the popular mobile game. The new terms revolve around specific Pokémon GO bans for cheaters.

No players have actually received any official Pokémon GO bans as of yet. We speculate that these Pokémon GO bans will come into play if you use bots, GPS spoofing apps, and other hacks on rooted or jailbroken devices, to help you take advantage of the game.

Dozens of reddit users have been abusing various cheats and bots over the past weekend to see if these Pokémon GO bans are real, or just a scare-tactic. So far there have been no official Pokémon GO bans handed out to any of the players. This makes us wonder if Niantic truly has a way of detecting cheaters.

So far the only Pokémon GO bans handed out to players, have been soft-bans which include the inability to use PokéStops, and Pokémon fleeing as soon as you catch them. These Pokémon GO bans have only lasted for a few hours though. A few users have reported server connection issues, where they have been unable to log into the game, but again these issues last a few hours.

We will keep you updated on these Pokémon GO bans, and for more Pokémon GO content, visit our Pokémon GO South African Hub.
