The Avatar sequels have been in the making for many years. This comes as no surprise as the original Avatar movie which was released in 2009 took nearly 10 years to make. Now the director of the original, as well as the Avatar sequels, has opened up about what these anticipated sequels will have in store for fans of the magical world of Pandora.
Legendary director, James Cameron, who will be in charge of the making off these anticipated Avatar sequels, chatted to American magazine, Variety on what these Avatar sequels will be focused on.
The storyline in the Avatar sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children. It’s more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans.
So the four Avatar sequels will be focusing on a family story line and how Jake and Neytiri are building a life and raising children together.
The first of the four Avatar sequels is set for release in December 2018, with James Cameron confirming that the film is still on schedule for that release date. However, the director doesn’t rule out the possibility of the release date being pushed back.
The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern. I want them to be released as close together as possible. If it’s an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we’re able to fulfill on that promise.
A pushed back release date for the first of the four Avatar sequels won’t be anything new, as it was originally set for release in 2014. The current release schedule for the Avatar sequels looks like this:
- 2018: Avatar 2;
- 2020: Avatar 3;
- 2022: Avatar 4;
- 2023: Avatar 5.
