Apple had most of the online world’s attention last night during its annual September event. The actual crowd and online crowd waited in anticipation for the company to finally confirm the iPhone 7 which has suffered through months of rumours, speculations and reported leaks. And the company did just that by confirming the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, Apple Watch Series 2 and more exciting Apple products and services to look forward to.
Pokémon GO On Apple Watch
Our favourite moment during Apple’s event came during the opening minutes when the company revealed that the popular mobile game, Pokémon GO will be getting an Apple Watch version. The Apple Watch version of Pokémon GO isn’t intended to replace the Pokémon GO Plus device which is a wearable that lets you catch Pokémon and visit Pokéstops. Instead, the Apple Watch version will notify Trainers of nearby Pokémon. You’re still required to catch the Pokémon using your smartphone. The Apple Watch version does have a cool Egg hatching feature, which is aimed at encouraging Trainers to get up and go for walks.
The Apple Watch version is set to be released later this year.
Apple Watch Series 2
The original Apple Watch got a massive makeover. The new Apple Watch Series 2 is what Apple dubs “swimproof“, which means that it can handle being submerged in water to depths of up to 50m.
The Apple Watch Series 2 comes with built-in GPS, meaning that you’ll be able to leave your smartphone at home while still being able to track your movement when on runs for instance. There will be a Nike+ version of the new Apple Watch Series 2.
The new version is said to be 50% faster in processing that its predecessor thanks to its S2 dual-core processor chip. It keeps its looks, though, with the same square shape being followed. But the new Apple Watch Series 2 has a ceramic option and new funky bands.
iPhone 7 And iPhone 7 Plus
Although Apple users were excited to see a new version of the Apple Watch, everyone just wanted to get to the new iPhone 7. Unfortunately, most of what was revealed about the iPhones were nothing new as most of the details surrounding Apple’s latest flagship iPhones were leaked leading up to the unveiling. That didn’t deter Apple’s excitement about the new iPhone 7, repeatedly calling it “the best iPhone yet“.
Both the 4.7″ iPhone 7 and 5.5″ iPhone 7 Plus will ship in the usual iPhone colour schemes, with the additions of the new glossy Black and Jet Black options. Aside from the new colour options, no headphone jack, new Home button and new dual-cameras (iPhone 7 Plus), the biggest design upgrade is the fact that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are now both water and dust-resistant.
What immediately stood out about the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were the devices’ camera specs. Once these smartphones drop they might become the best smartphone cameras on the market. The new biggers Plus model stands out with its dual-cameras on the back which lets users choose between wide-angle and telephoto lens shots. Both new iPhones will have cool camera software, allowing users to take their iPhone picture-taking to the next level. The iPhone 7 comes with optical image stabilisation too.
Both devices ship with new, faster A10 fusion processing chips.
Both devices are set to release later in Septemeber in the US, with roll-outs happening to the rest of the world later.
With Apple getting rid of the iPhone headphone jack in the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the company released new wireless headphones dubbed the AirPods. After a one-tap setup, you can start listening to music by simply placing these wireless AirPods into your ears, which have built-in sensors to know when to activate in-ear. They pause when you remove them from your ears.
The AirPods offer up to 5 hours of battery life on a single charge and can quick-charge in 15min, offering up to 3 hours of listening time.
- Apple announced that its latest OS will be officially available from 13 September 2016.
- A new Super Mario Bros. game is coming to iPhone called Super Mario Run.
- Mac is also receiving an OS update called Sierra, releasing 20 September 2016.
