It has been a while since Motorola has been considered a serious tech giant, as the industry is dominated by Apple, Sony, Samsung, and LG. We think this is all about to change as Motorola unveiled a smartphone, that is much more than just a smartphone.

Think about the Moto Z as a gadget, in which you can easily add more gadgets onto. This new Motorola phone acts as a base for modular add-ons. These add-ons range from a projector to a gorgeous Hasselblad 10x optical zoom camera.

Moto Z Specs

  • 5.2mm thin
  • 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 32GB/64GB Storage up  to 2TB SD Card
  • 13MP Camera with optical image stabilization + laser autofocus
  • 5MP front facing camera with LED flash
  • Fingerprint reader
  • 2600 mAh battery

Although those are the base specs of the device, the modular Motorola system enables it to do much more than what the base device can do. These Moto Mods, as Motorola is calling them, clip on and off the device instantly, boosting the function of the Motorola device. Most Moto Mods will come with an extra battery built into them, which will further extend the battery life of the Motorola device while in use. There will be a handful of Motorola mods available when the device launches.

Hasselblad True Zoom

Motorola

Featuring a 10x optical zoom and xenon flash, the camera stands at the forefront of mobile cameras. The camera makes use of Hasselblad’s Phocus software, and shoots RAW format, for all those professionals who want to edit their photos.

JBL Soundboost

Motorola

The JBL Soundboost is like a portable speaker, but on the Motorola phone itself. The new Motorola device has 10 hours of battery by itself, and a kickstand to hold the phone up while it is playing the music. We have tested this Motorola mod, and it was loud, and at the same time provided excellent sound.

Insta-Share Projector

Motorola

This projector is capable of outputting an image up to 70-inches wide. This means that you can connect it, and turn your wall into a movie house by using the content on the new Motorola phone, like games, apps, photos, and videos.
