The movie is based on the textbook by the same name which was used by Harry Potter and all other witches and wizards who took Care Of Magical Creatures as a subject at Hogwarts School For Witchcraft And Wizardry. The textbook is available for fans to own and was written by J.K. Rowling from the perspective of magizoologist, Newt Scamander who was portrayed by Eddie Redmayne in the movie.

With four more Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them movies set for release, we’re sure to see a lot more magical and fantastic creatures. But for now, here is a breakdown of some of the creatures featured in the first Fantastical Beasts And Where To Find Them movie.

Magical Creatures

These insect-like creatures come from Australia. Their speed makes these sapphire blue magical creatures impossible to be spotted by Muggles and sometimes witches and wizards too. A Billywig sting causes giddiness and levitation. If you’re allergic to one of these magical creatures, you will float around permanently if you’re strung. Fizzing Whizzbees, a popular magical treat, is made from dried Billyweeg stings.

Magical Creatures

Yes, these are the magical creatures everyone now wants after we fell in love with Newt’s very clingy Bowtruckle, Pickett. Unfortunately, these magical creatures are very difficult to spot as they blend in easily with their forested environments. Bowtruckles are described as peaceable and shy magical creatures, but because they are considered as tree-guardians they have been known to attack tree-cutters. By offering these magical creatures woodlice to snack on, you might be able to distract them long enough to remove wand-wood from the trees they guard.

Magical Creatures

As seen in the movie, these elusive magical creatures are able to make themselves literally invisible. It resembles a sloth and is as peaceful too. These magical creatures are covered in hair which is spun to create Invisibility Cloaks.

Magical Creatures

One of the magical creatures from the movie that causes complete chaos is the enormous Erumpent. This rhino-looking creature hails from Africa and can weigh up to a ton. These magical creatures have horns capable of piercing most material and contains an explosive fluid.

You don’t want to mess with these aggressive magical creatures. Their hides are even tougher than dragons and Newt has the only breading pair of these magical creatures left in the world.

These magical creatures have anemone-like growths on their backs, which, when eaten, promote resistance to curses and jinxes. But be careful to not overdo it, because an overdose of these creatures will cause you to sprout long, purple ear hair. These magical creatures will eat your feet if you step on them.

Magical Creatures

One of the most mischievous magical creatures is the Niffler. You might remember from the movie, that Newt had some issues with the naughty Niffler.

Not only are these creatures featured in the Fantastic Beasts movie, they are also used by Lee Jordon who use two of these magical creatures to destroy Dolores Umbridge’s office. Hagrid also gives a demonstration of how a Niffler can dig for treasure in one of the magical classes he teaches.

This is it official definition in the Fantastic Beasts textbook:

The Niffler is a British beast. Fluffy, black and long-snouted, this borrowing creature has a predilection for anything glittery. These magical creatures are often kept by goblin to burrow deep into the earth for treasure. Though the Niffler is gentle and even affectionate, it can be destructive to belongings and should never be kept in a house. These magical creatures live in lairs up to twenty feet below the surface and produce six to eight young in a litter.

Another one of the African magical beasts featured in the new movie, is also one of the most dangerous in the world. This huge leopard’s breath causes diseases powerful enough to wipe out entire villages. It takes more than 100 skilled witches and wizards to subdue these creatures.

Magical Creatures

Found in India, these snake-like magical creatures can reach lengths of up to 15 feet. This magical creatures has the ability to shrink and grow as it needs. They are very protective of their eggs as these are made from silver.

Swooping Evil

Magical Creatures

This mysterious magical creature was introduced by the movie and we don’t know much about these magical creatures. These magical creatures can be used to erase memories with their venom and they can be used to scare the hell out of any witch or wizard who messes with you.
