When looking at a speaker system, we tend to always want the best, but sometimes the best is not always in our budget. We think we have found one of the best PC speaker systems, that will suit your needs, while still staying in a pretty reasonable budget. The Logitech Z533 2.1 speaker system is powerful, has various ways to connect to different devices, and most of all, is under R1 500.

Design

Looking at this speaker system, you would think that you had a R3 000 and up set on your desk. The speakers have a gold and black look to add a premium design aesthetic to the product. The piano finish on the outside of the speaker system keeps it looking clean and sleek. As for the subwoofer, it is simple, with a fabric coating around the actual speaker, and can be used as a piece of furniture. The ports on the subwoofer give the device its biggest feature, its versatility. From connecting to a PC, to connecting it to a TV through RCA, the design of the subwoofer keeps all these connectors at the back of the box, out of site.

Lastly we have the volume up and down dial, which is a round device that rotates to turn up and down. When turned all the way to the left, it turns off with a sophisticated click. It is quite heavy to make sure it stays put on your table while you are turning it, and the volume decimals are far between to avoid you turning it up too quick.

Performance

While using the speaker system, we tested all sorts of sound types, and music genre, and we were never disappointed at the quality we got from it. From streaming music via Apple Music, to playing Diablo III. Even when we used the speaker as an extra speaker for our TV while playing on PS4, the sound output was fantastic. The only downfall being the physical volume dial which we had to adjust while it was situated by the TV, far from the couch. The extra connectors gave us the versatility we so craved from a speaker system. Sure there is no Bluetooth or anything, but there is an extra port for an AUX cable, so it will become a staple at a get together with friends, giving them the opportunity to plug their phone in and play music from the speaker set.

Speaker System

With the volume adjustment and bass adjustment being two separate settings, we could control what we wanted to hear more, and have a better handle on the genre were were listening to. Saying that, we never had a time where sound was distorted. The sound quality of the speaker system was always clear and crisp, with the perfect levels of acoustics across the board. Gaming had loud explosions that we felt, and music had the beats and the instruments that we heard. Even watching movies on our PC was pleasant as it never overcompensated. Dialogue was clear, and loudness was leveled.

Verdict

With so many ways to use the Logitech Z533 2.1 speaker system, we never felt restricted by its features. Whatever situation we threw at it, was handled very well. This speaker system goes beyond the typical PC speaker, and moves into something you could use everywhere around the house. For its price, you would expect less, but not with this model.
