The new BlackWidow Chroma V2 is a keyboard that has taken every great feature from the previous model and improved on it. It is one of the flashiest devices we have ever used, and every game we played, made us fall in love with it even more.

Its only downfall has it be its price tag. Coming in at R3 299, it is a high-end device, that comes packed with features, without a doubt, but can set you back quite a buck.

Being a full-sized keyboard, the BlackWidow Chroma V2 includes everything you would look for in a keyboard design. The only thing missing is a media bar, which could have been used for sound control, and perhaps media playing on your PC.

Supporting USB 2.0 pass-through, the power cable on the device is sturdy and practical. You could plug it into your two USB ports on your PC, and have the one port that is on the keyboard, used as a mouse. There is also an option to move your headset port to the keyboard by using the included cable. After it is all set up, theBlackWidow Chroma V2 becomes a perfect companion in front of you.

The wrist rest is now magnetic, which means you just place it on the keyboard and it stays put. You can pick up the keyboard, turn it upside down, and it stays on without an issue. The wrist rest is soft and padded, which makes the BlackWidow Chroma V2 comfortable to use for extended gaming or work sessions. The back stands add height to the BlackWidow Chroma V2, and that, together with the wrist rest, really added a new level of comfortableness to the device.

Blackwidow Chroma V2 Review

We played around with the Green Switch One BlackWidow Chroma V2 model, which opts for a clicky sound rather than a silent one. We weren’t disappointed at all at the feeling we got while typing and playing games. The buttons were smooth and fast. But it is the beauty of the 16.8 million colors that made the BlackWidow Chroma V2 keyboard one of our favorites.

The BlackWidow Chroma V2 makes use of Razer’s Synapse program to control all sorts of options on the keyboard. Here you can change the color presets, macro keys, and even store your saved options in the cloud so you can download them again across multiple devices. It is a neat program that does not get in the way of the features already on the device, but at the same time, it lets you go wild with customization.

The color options are vast, and range from star blinking in millions of shades of colors, to fire burning behind the buttons. They are fantastic to play around with, and gives the BlackWidow Chroma V2 its biggest selling point. Only when we played certain games were we blown away by the use of the lighting. Overwatch is a perfect example of how the backlights changed color depending on the character we picked, and our movement keys (WSAD) all lit up while we played. This feature is the selling point for us.

With five macro keys, a full-sized keyboard, and a very impressive light show to go with it all, the Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 is a serious device, with a serious price tag. If you are a gadget geek, and can appreciate something so wonderfully designed, then this device is for you.
