After teases during the MWC event earlier in March, Samsung has finally unveiled its next flagship device, the Galaxy S8.

Dubbed as the “Infinity Display”, the Samsung Galaxy S8 breaks away from the boundaries that we have seen in phones for decades. Instead of the screen being trapped into a border surrounding the phone, the display wraps around the front of the Galaxy S8. Right from the top to the bottom, and on the sides too. The display has the biggest screen to device ratio in a device ever. This display will be on both the Galaxy S8 which has a 5.8-inch display, and the Galaxy S8+ which packs a 6.2-inch.

The Galaxy S8 will no longer have a solid home button on the front of the device, rather it opts for a hidden home button under the screen. This also means that the fingerprint scanner has moved to the back of the device next to the camera. The device has an extremely powerful CPU in it that allows it to perform tasks faster than ever before.

Bixby

Apple has Siri, Microsoft has Cortana, and Samsung now has Bixby. This virtual assistant will be integrated into the Galaxy S8, and provide seamless services across various functions. Take a photo of an object and it will search for the product online for you to buy. Use voice, text, or touch to say what you want and it will search for it. Lastly, it will learn from you and adapt to your lifestyle. An example that was given during the keynote was that you can tell it to remind you to read an article when you get home, and as soon as you walk through the door the reminder will pop up on your phone. Bixby will be a new beginning for Samsung in terms of virtual assistants.

Samsung Dex

One of the most exciting announcements was the ability to turn your Galaxy S8 into a fully-fledged desktop experience through Samsung Dex. This little box will act as a dock that after you have placed your Galaxy S8 into the USB Type-C cradle, it will output an advanced version of Android to a desktop or TV through HDMI. Using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you will be able to complete presentations, work on documents, and do everything else you would normally do on a desktop PC. Samsung is working with Microsoft to optimize Office to work perfectly across the OS.

Gear VR And Galaxy S8 Gadgets

The Gear VR controller will let you fully interact with your VR experience beyond what has been possible in the past. Exclusive games are being developed at the moment to make use of this, but we are excited to see how this new device will integrate into the VR world. Samsung also announced that all Galaxy S8 devices will come with a pair of AKG earphones in the box, as well as Micro USB to USB-Type C adapters
