We recently covered the best PS4 games you have to play and how important they are to your gaming culture. What about Xbox and its fantastic first party lineup? Let’s take a look at all the best Xbox One games that you need to play.
Forza Horizon 3
When the original Forza Horizon was released, it defined a new chapter of open world racing games. We then explored the coast of Europe in Horizon 2, and it was a big step up. It was not until Forza Horizon 3 that Turn 10 Studios released a genre-defining experience that took us across Australia unlike nothing we had ever explored before. Forza Horizon 3’s open world, weather system, and gorgeous visuals will forever stand as an example of the power of Xbox One.
Gears Of War 4
Back on the Xbox 360, the Gears of War series was going in a strange direction that was slowly turning dull. Well Gears of War 4 was the saving grace for the series as it not only felt like a reboot, but it took the game in a new and fresh direction. GOW 4 introduced new enemies, guns, and most of all a gorgeous new game engine to showcase it all on.
Ori And The Blind Forest
One of the most beautiful indie games ever released on the Xbox One sees Ori, a strange wood creature venture into the Blind Forest to find and gain back control of the elements which has been lost to darkness. The water-painted world, and gorgeous art style compliment the soundtrack and phenomenal gameplay.
Forza Motorsport 6
Those who are not into the casual, open world-ness of the Horizon series, and would rather opt in for a more simulator-driven experience, would find it in Forza Motorsport 6. With more than 300 cars to unlock and choose from, and some of the best racing tracks, mostly inspired and moulded from the real world locations, the game is a solid racing simulator.
Insomniac Games, the masterminds behind the Ratchet and Clank series, created a stunning, yet out-of-this world game for the Xbox One in its launch months. Sunset Overdrive merges fast-paced action, in an over the top scenario. FizzCo’s energy drink has created creatures from humans, and you need to take them down by any means necessary. Teddy bears with dynamite strapped to them, water guns that shoot acid, and even vinyl players that launch saw blades.
Back on the Xbox 360 a couch co-op game came along that changed the way we looked at indie games. When this game was re-released on the Xbox One, fans of the masterfully crafted hack and slash went wild. Castle Crashers Remastered took the game, added all the DLC, and included the same great action we loved from the original.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
The Halo series is still one of the best FPS games in the gaming world, and not only does it stand on its own without the influence of other games, but it manages to deliver a spectacular story without compromising on its gameplay. The Master Chief Collection is a great collection of every Halo game before Halo 5: Guardians. With over 100 multiplayer maps, and countless hours of single player campaign to get through, it is one of those Xbox One games you NEED.
We reviewed Quantum Break and loved it. The game is a mix of great story telling, as well as a solid combat system that combines time controlling mechanics, with fun gunplay. The best part about the game is how the story plays out. With a mix of live action, in which characters are taken into the game and from the live action sequences, and decisions that change all this. If you want a game to play while experiencing a solid movie-like scenario, then Quantum Break is one of those Xbox One games you won’t regret buying.
Halo Wars 2
A more recent Xbox One games that just released, Halo Wars 2 brings back the classic RTS genre that successfully merges it across both Windows 10 and Xbox One. The game has great RTS mechanics that mixes into the Halo series quite well. It also expands on the Halo lore even more with stunning CG cinematics, and new characters introduced into the series.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
If you ever missed out on the classic Gears of War game, then you can play it for the first time on Xbox One. Remastered on a new engine with enhanced visuals and polished combat gameplay, Gears of War Ultimate Edition is a solid Gears experience that is the perfect introduction to the series and one of the Xbox One games you should have in your collection.
