These specialist found that people who are more anxious and socially insecure, are more likely to have a social media addiction.

Researches have found four leading causes for social media addiction:

  1. Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO): Social media has made us more connected and aware of what’s going on in other people’s lives, making it hard to stop knowing what they are up to.
  2. Ego: Our society has become self-obsessed, which is evident from our selfie culture.
  3. Social Comparison and Self-Esteem Increase: We use social media to compare ourselves to our peers and to feel connected to them, which makes us feel good.
  4. Brain Chemistry: Social media addiction is physical as well as psychological.
