If you’ve dropped a phone, you’ve probably dreamed about owning a foldable smartphone. Tech giant, Samsung, might be making your dreams a reality, having announced that it plans to roll out a foldable smartphone next year.
President of Mobile Business at Samsung Electronics, Koh Dong-jin has expressed the company’s intention of bringing a foldable smartphone to the mobile market by 2018. But, before Samsung releases its first foldable smartphone, there are some issues the company has to sort out.
As the head of the business, I can say our current goal is next year. When we can overcome some problems for sure, we will launch the product.
Hopefully, the problems with the foldable smartphone do not include anything regarding heat. Samsung has been plagued with heat issues in its devices, most notoriously the exploding Galaxy Note 7.
Rumours have been swirling about when Samsung would release a foldable smartphone since it released a flexible TV display back in 2013 called Youm. Now, we finally have confirmation that a foldable smartphone is expected, even though we didn’t get much more information about it.
Apart from confirming that the company is working on releasing a foldable smartphone, it was also revealed that Samsung plans to develop an artificial intelligent speaker. With companies like Amazon, Google and Apple having its own voice-command speakers, it comes as no surprise that Samsung wants to develop its own product. No news yet as to when the speaker is set to hit the market.
