As predicted, Apple released its latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. Straying from its usual release schedule of an “s” device, Apple named the devices the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. However, the most surprising thing about Apple’s ever-popular September event, was the release of the iPhone X.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new iPhones and the iPhone X, as well as some other exciting products and services announced by the giant tech company.
The iPhone X is the smartphone that Apple has apparently always envisioned. As Apple loves to do away with things like the headphone port in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, it has removed the Home Button on the iPhone X. The entire iPhone X consists of a 5.8″ Super Retina display that fills the whole device.
The only space on the iPhone X that is not part of the display is where the front-facing camera and speaker are located.
Another major new feature of the iPhone X, is its wireless charging capabilities. Apple introduced the Airpower Matt which will be used to charge the iPhone X as well as your Apple Watch and AirPods.
The new iPhone X will be available in Space Grey and Silver, come in 64GB or 256GB models. The iPhone X is rated IP67 under IEC standard 60529, making it splash, water and dust resistant.
The iPhone X has a dual 12MP rear camera and a 7MP front-facing camera and is capable of 4K video recording.
The iPhone X ships with the new A11 Bionic processing chip with four efficiency cores, which Apple claims are up to 70% faster than the A10 Fusion featured n previous models.
iPhone 8 And iPhone 8 Plus
Just like the iPhone X, the new flagship smartphones from Apple will support wireless charging, with Apple obviously keen on making the world cable and port free.
Apple is calling it “[t]he most durable glass ever in a smartphone, front and back“. So hopefully your new devices won’t shatter as easily as the previous models.
The iPhone 8 has a 4.7″ Retina HD display and the iPhone 8 Plus has a bigger 5.5” Retina HD display.
Like the new iPhone X, the iPhone 8 has a 12MP camera, with the iPhone 8 Plus boasting a dual-camera setup similar to its predecessor. The front-facing camera is 7MP and both devices are capable of 4K video recording.
Both models carry the new A11 Bionic processing chip, like the iPhone X. The new models will be available in Gold, Silver and Space Grey, with 64GB and 256GB options. Like the iPhone X, the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are rated IP67 under IEC standard 60529, making them splash, water and dust resistant.
The new Apple Watch looks very similar to its two predecessors, but it has some new features that might draw new users. The Apple Watch Series 3 comes with LTE connectivity using an electronic SIM. This means that you’ll be able to stream music on your Apple Watch without needing your phone and also be able to make calls, reply to messages, etc.
New iOS 11
Apart from the new iPhones and iPhone X, the most exciting thing about Apple’s keynote was the release of iOS 11. The updated operating system from Apple will be available from 19 September 2017. You can expect faster features for your iPhones and iPads, making the devices easier and more personal to use. It also has a new feature called animojis which animates your emojis and adds sound.
