If you love video games then you’ve at one point held a video game controller in your hands. But have you ever wonder how far that very video game controller has come? YouTube channel, Super Deluxe, has put together a fun video setting out a brief history of the video game controller.

The popular YouTube channel looked back at the past 58 years of video game controllers. In the past 58 years, many awesome video game controllers have come and gone.  The video is just over one minute long and starts off with the Tennis For Two controller which was released in 1958 and goes through controllers all the way to 2016 with the Oculus Rift.

Some of our favourite controllers mentioned in the above video are the Atari 2600, the first PlayStation controller which was released back in 1994, the SEGA Dreamcast, the original Guitar Hero and the Nintendo Wii. Another iconic controller that made it onto the list is the NES Famicom. It, however, doesn’t feature the brand new Joy-Con video game controllers, used on the Nintendo Switch, which is a pity because these devices are so cool that they deserved a mention. The video also doesn’t feature the new Move video game controllers for the PlayStation VR, which are pretty cool devices themselves that light up and are easy to use.

We love the retro background music and the minimalistic style of the video created by Super Deluxe.

Drop us a comment and let us know if you have a favourite video game controller.
