While many Hollywood stars move onto old age gracefully, there are plenty of odd cases where celebrity deaths have happened under bizarre circumstances. Aside from the cases you likely are already familiar with, there are many other stories you may have never come across. We take a look back at four Hollywood stars who died in strange circumstances.

Tennessee Williams

Cause of Death: Choked on a bottle cap

Although he may not strictly count as a Hollywood star, Tennessee Williams is considered one of the greatest playwrights in history. He allegedly often struggled with depression, and was found dead in a New York hotel suite. Medical professionals reported that Williams choked to death on a bottle cap of the type used on bottles of nasal spray or eye solution. It was confirmed that the cap was from a bottle of eye drops that he often used. According to examiners, drugs and alcohol in his system suppressed his gag reflex, making it difficult for him to dislodge the cap from his throat, making it one of the more unfortunate celebrity deaths.

Natasha Richardson

Cause of Death: Refused medical help after a ski accident

The famous English actress, Natasha Richardson, is best known for her roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and The Parent Trap. It was reported that while taking a skiing class on vacation in Canada, the charming actress fell and sustained injuries. In a state of obvious confusion, she reportedly rejected medical help, insisting that nothing was wrong with her and made her way back to her hotel room. Later she said she was suffering from a headache and was rushed to a hospital where she passed away due to a condition called Epidural Hematoma. She left behind husband Liam Neeson and two sons, and was one of the saddest cases of celebrity deaths in recent times.

Jayne Mansfield

Cause of Death: Traffic collision

Working both on Broadway and in Hollywood, Jayne Mansfield was an American actress who starred in many popular Hollywood films that drew attention to her platinum-blonde hair, attractive body structure and daring costumes. It was reported that Mansfield was traveling with her partner, driver, and 3 of her 5 children to New Orleans after an appearance on Biloxi when a thick fog from an anti-mosquito spray drifted over the highway. Their car crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer that had slowed because of a truck spraying mosquito fogger in the early hours of June 29, 1967.  All three adults were trageically killed instantly, but thankfully all of the children survived.

John-Erik Hexum

Cause of Death: Deadly accident during film production

Talented John-Erik Hexum was only 26 years old when he accidentally shot himself dead during the production of a television series. When a scene had to be taken several times due too many on-set difficulties, Hexum picked up a prop revolver loaded with a blank which he believed was completely harmless and fired at his own head at point-blank range. Blank cartridge guns are considered harmless because they release sound, but no bullets, and are primarily used to make a bang and a flash. However, in one of the freak accidental celebrity deaths, Hexum passed away due to firing the weapon at point blank range.
