For those who don’t know, South Park The Fractured But Whole is around the corner. Releasing on 17 October 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the game is going to change what you thought possible in a video game when it comes to how rude and graphic it can be. We love South Park and we have played some of the latest game at various events throughout the year and we wanted to share 5 reasons why we cannot wait to play the full release.
It’s The Fractured But Whole
The latest game takes place right after, or actually in between the original game. Cartman decides that he is not going to play the original game that saw the kids fight over the Stick of Truth, and instead, he is now going to recruit a team of superheroes to help fight crime, and also take down the opposing group of supervillains that are causing chaos in the neighbourhood. It all started with a cat that went missing and now we all know how crazy South Park gets at times.
Of course, the kids have now created a bunch of ridiculous superheroes out of the strangest things like Cartman is The Coon, Kyle The Human Kite, Stan The Toolshed, Timmy is Iron Maide, and Butters as Professor Chaos. All the characters have been created with the idea that they all fall into the South Park craze and every one of them is sure to be as over-the-top as before. The game is a RPG so leveling up, attacking, using all your gear, and of course fighting awesome South Park bosses is what it is all about. It will also have countless references to the TV show so if you keep your eyes peeled on the sheer amount of detail in each area you are bound to see something that references the TV show in some way or another.
New Combat System With 12 Classes
The previous game featured a turn-based combat system that relied on you planning your attacks as you stood in one place and fought your foe. The Fractured But Whole has taken that to a new level by opening up the battlefield to a new tactical style. You can now walk around in battle across a grid system and execute your attacks. Different abilities and skills will have a different range and effect on the board and some attacks can even knock back enemies.
In one particular demo, we played, instead of us fighting the transvestite boss that was marching towards us we had to run away from her and predict where the attacks would land on the grid. It also matters that you get 12 classes in the game, each of them with a unique attack set and skills to take into combat. The one we tried was a fire class called Blaster that used his flames as well as farts to combine huge attacks across multiple grids. We cannot wait to test this all in the full game.
The Comedy Is Better Than Ever
If anything, South Park is known for its crazy comedy and the game has not changed that. From the moment you boot the game up you will be welcomed to an experience that will leave you in stitches.
Expect the comedy to be on point in the game as you venture through it with the entire unruly cast of characters and all their “mom” jokes. That aside, be ready to see some things that you will not be able to unsee. If the past South Park game is anything to go by, where you had to travel up an anus to fight the last boss, then Fractured But Whole will be even worse.
Morgan Freeman Is Back And Helpful
Throughout the game, you will be able to explore the town of South Park and find all sorts of things to collect along the way. South Park is bigger than the last game which means that every location will be filled with things to find and people to meet, one of these people is, none other than, Morgan Freeman because of South Park things.
Morgan Freeman will be more useful in this South Park game than the past game as he will now be able to take all that junk you find in the game and craft things for you at his Freeman’s Tacos fast food stall. These items include new gear, weapons, and other crafted items that will help you in the game.
It’s An RPG
Besides being an open world South Park game with an uncensored amount of humour, a decent battle system, and of course lots of loot, The Fractured But Whole is an RPG and that is enough for us. What this means is that throughout the game you will have to manage your character that you created from the start and make sure you develop his or her skills as you progress through the game. Gear is important to surviving so finding the best stuff and equipping it onto your character will ensure success.
It being an RPG also means that we are in it for the long haul as the game will probably be as long as the first game and offer different challenges that we will need to overcome. Levelling up and making sure we grind up some XP to get past those challenges is what RPGs are all about and The Fractured But Whole will surely have lots of this.
So there you have it. South Park The Fractured But Whole releases on 17 October 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Take a look at the latest trailer below and get yourself ready for the launch of this epic game.
