R2D2 was named after a  film editing term, “reel 2, dialog 2”.

Chewbacca was based on  George Lucas’s dog, Indiana. This same dog was also the inspiration for Indiana Jones!

Han was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather), who is George Luca’s buddy.

BONUS FACT: Yoda’s species is never revealed. A mystery, it is.

4. Darth Vader was Portrayed by 3 Different Actors

James Earl Jones did the voice, Sebastian Shaw’s face was used, and David Prowse wore the Vader suit.
