Overcooked – PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One

Overcooked is a crazy cooking game where up to four players have to run a kitchen. While it sounds simple enough, every action relies on another player to do their part to make sure the kitchen runs smoothly. If someone does not wash the dishes then you won’t be able to plate the food and you cannot plate the food if someone does not cook it and you cannot cook it if someone does not slice the ingredients. After a while, everything is burning and everyone is screaming at each other. A typical couch co-op gaming session.

SnipperClips – Switch

The Nintendo Switch has some great couch co-op games, but the best of the bunch is SnipperClips. The game sees you and up to three friends solve puzzles while controlling paper characters. You need to work together to cut your friends up to fit into specific holes, carry items and cut them into specific shapes to turn dials and cogs. The game takes you across various stages with different themes that put your friendships to the test as you try to be the best paper on the couch.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime – PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, Mac

Ever wondered what it would be like exploring space with your friends? Well, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is almost the closest you will ever get to it. This crazy couch co-op game sees you and your friends take control of a spaceship where each player has to work to their best ability to make sure the vehicle moves and fights off the deadly alien creatures that want to kill you. You can equip new guns, upgrade your ship but of course, no matter how kitted-out your ship is, your friends could just suck at the game and you could just die.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is not the Tomb Raider games you know. Instead, the game takes you and your friends across a tomb-plundering adventure from a top-down camera perspective. Each of you will need to work together to get through the deadly environments that threaten your life. Of course, the game relies heavily on co-op and working together.

Rayman Legends – PS3, Xbox, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch

Rayman Legends is probably one of the best couch co-op games on this list. The game follows the story of Rayman and his posse, Globox and the Teensies as they set off to save the land from an evil force. Rayman Legends is a gorgeous game that features a unique water paint art style that is still unmatched today. The game is completely playable in co-op from start to finished as you and your three friends take control of a character and work together to overcome puzzles and challenging levels.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes – PS4, PC, Mac

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes sees one player trapped in a room with a ticking bomb, which the other players must defuse. In order to do so, they need to get help from their friends who must give them instructions on how to decipher the various puzzles on the bomb box. The problem is that your friends cannot see the box so you will need to explain what you are looking for while they are screaming back to you what they think you need. This is definitely one of the louder couch co-op games on this list.

Salt and Sanctuary – PS4, PC, Mac

The game is a platformer with the same difficulty as the multi-award winning series and it takes you on a deadly journey through mysterious lands. The game is completely playable in co-op which makes it easier but at the same time the enemies get tougher too. It is a deep experience from start to finish and one you could invest a lot of time into with a close friend or partner.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Switch

Mario Kart is one of the best couch co-op games out there. The series has stood the test of time since its debut all the way back in 1992 and it has been a hit ever since. Even with the introduction of online play on the Wii, players still preferred to sit and glare into a small TV divided up into four blocks while they threw green shells at their friends. There is no matching its glory and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch it the best of the best. More tracks, a bigger roster of characters and of course it all looks superb. Even while playing 4-player split screen.
