If you have seen Luke Cage on Netflix and are wondering just what the show is about and who in the world he is then we have you covered. Don’t feel bad, it is not every day that you see Marvel superheroes around the web that aren’t the iconic Spider-Man, Iron Man and Captain America. Just rest assured that Luke Cage is just as awesome as the rest if not better.
Mike Colter stars as Luke Cage on Netflix. Currently, on its first season (season 2 kicks off Friday 22 June), the show sees Luke, a former convict with superhuman strength and unbreakable skin who now fights crime and corruption in Harlem. When an experiment goes wrong, Luke is given super strength and unbreakable skin, no really, his skin is stronger than the strongest material known to man.
Luke Cage becomes a fugitive soon after in an attempt to rebuild his life and confront his darkest enemies in a gang battle for the heart of his city. Luke soon becomes famous after succeeding in this fight only to discover that fame has its downfall, everyone wants a piece of you even your worst enemies.
Luke Cage’s character design and concept follow directly from the Marvel comic book series. Luke was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit and during his prison sentence, he underwent experimental chemical procedures which went south and gave him his awesome powers. Luke first appeared in the comic book “Luke Cage, Hero for Hire which hit the streets all the way back in 1972. He was the first black superhero to star in his own comic book series too making history back in the day. Marvel did a great job bringing his character to life by showcasing the grungier life of the streets in the day and while the Netflix show has been adapted to a modern-day setting, it still stays true to the overall setting and story of the comic book series.
