Without spoiling the plot of the latest Marvel Spider-Man video game, just know that when the game ends, it pretty much opens up the entire Spider-Man universe. This got us thinking. Where could Insomniac Games go next with the Spider-Man game and who could be the badass villain that Spider-Man needs to take down?
Let’s take a look at ten storylines from the comic book series that we would love to play in the video game.
Carnage Comes To Life
Carnage is probably our favourite Spider-Man villain of all time. There is a Spider-Man universe where Carnage infects a lot of people, including Gwen Stacey, and even Peter Parker himself. We would love to experience a Spider-Man game where Spidey gets infected by the deadly symbiote and has to struggle between fighting for good and stopping it from taking over his body.
Ghost Spider is one of the scariest suits in the Spider-Man universe and there is a reason behind it. In this version of Spider-Man, Peter Parker’s uncle Ben does not die and he actually helps Spider-Man with his new powers. This Spider-Man universe sees Spider-Man live as an undead human after he gets killed by his uncle by accident and features a range of cool abilities and fights due to his condition. We think it could make a cool addition to the Spider-Man game.
Set in the steampunk world of Earth 803, May Reilly was bitten by a spider and turned into one of the coolest versions of Spider-Man ever, also she is a female so Spider-Lady more like it. She creates her suit from parts which creates a mechanical spider-like costume that looks badass. In her universe, she fights crime using more gadgets than the traditional Spider-Man, this is mainly due to her lack of superpowers. While Lady Spider was bitten by a spider in a cage, she used it as a lesson “don’t let anyone cage you” which is why she fought crime in her comic book universe. Everything she does and has is made by herself and without superpowers too. She is pretty awesome and would work well in the Spider-Man game.
This version of Spider-Man has been used slightly in a past game known as “Shattered Dimensions”. It follows Peter Parker as Spider-Man during the Great Depression. Peter is an investigative journalist that sets off to uncover the truth behind his uncle’s death. Of course, the Goblin is behind it, which makes for a great comic book series and something that may make for a great Spider-Man game too.
This is one of the Spider-Man universes on this list that does not star Peter Parker. Instead, Miquel O’Hara takes the lead as a futuristic Spider-Man in the year 2099 A.D. The comic book series has its fair share of villains which all revolve around the future timeline. To make a Spider-Man game of this would be pretty cool, as we could totally see Spider-Man swinging through the air dodging floating cars in this futuristic world.
Ultimate Spider-Man and Miles Morales
Miles Morales is a different kind of Spider-Man. He takes the role of the superhero in The Ultimate Spider-Man which is an entirely different kind of Spider-Man but very much the same too. The Ultimate Spider-Man universe has the same villains as the rest of them and the same crime-fighting action, but the series features a much more personal approach as Miles is still trying to learn the Spider-Man ropes.
This may be a stretch given that Spider-Boy was only ever released in one book but the entire issue featured a complete story from start to finish. In order to save two universes, Spider-Boy was forced to use the power of Amaglam to defeat Carnage and King Lizard. The universe made sure to deliver a great dose of villains and even Dr Octavius made his dastardly appearance in the world too. We don’t know, it just seems like a pretty cool series to turn into a Spider-Man game.
Those of you who know the Spider-Man universe will know that Mac Gargan is a well-known character. Why, may you ask? Well, he is Scorpion. But wait, Mac also becomes a version of Venom during the series too. The most shockingly of all – he actually becomes Spider-Man as well during the Dark Reign storyline. It is a rather ambitious storyline given that it features not only Spider-Man but many other Marvel characters too. The series basically rewrote the fabric of each Marvel character and made them very, very different from what we know. This delivered a comic experience unlike anything else in the series. It even features Mister Negative himself too.
We love zombies and we love Spider-Man so imagine a world where the two collide? Well, they did in a universe of Spider-Man and it was awesome, and a little dark too. In this version of Spider-Man, Peter Parker becomes a zombie. While this series plays out pretty much the same as Earth-616, its darker undertones make it lot more intense. For example, Peter ends up eating his aunt and uncle due to his crazed hunger for human flesh. While this is not shown in the comic book, it is revealed throughout the story.
Last but not least is the Peter Parker we all love and know and the current direction of the Marvel’s Spider-Man game. Like we mentioned above, the end of the game leaves a lot open and your mind spaces off to a whole lot of things that could possibly happen in the series. One of these could be the introduction of a new dangerous villain, even more dangerous than all six you face in the game at the moment. The new characters you meet in the game could also point to a new story arc that Insomniac Games could tackle too. The possibilities are endless really and if all else fails, stick to what you know as the game is so damn great already.
