The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second of five new Fantastic Beasts movies and here’s what we thought about it.
The Crimes of Grindelwald picks up where the 2016 movie ended. Nuturios dark wizard, Grindelwald (reprised by Johnny Depp) has been captured. Newt Scamander is banned from traveling internationally, while a whole lot of magical madness surrounds and engulfs him constantly. If you loved Newt in the first Fantastic Beasts movie, then you’ll become besotted with him in The Crimes of Grindelwald. Not only is he incredibly caring towards all his magical creatures, he truly loves the muggle and magical worlds equally and without discrimination of choosing sides.
The magical creatures are as fantastic as ever. A few favourites return like the adorable Bowtruckle, Pickett who (almost) never leaves Newt’s jacket pocket. The gold-loving Nifflers are also back and are more hilariously obsessed with anything shiny than the first movie. There are a plethora of new fantastic beasts in The Crimes of Grindelwald. A new favourite includes an Asian half dragon, half tiger called Zouwu who Newt saves from a magical circus. There’s also a wonderful scene with Newt and a new magical creature called a Kelpie. It’s one of those scenes that makes you love magic and the wonderful world created by J.K. Rowling so much.
For fans of the magical world created by J.K. Rowling, seeing Albus Dumbledore on screen again was a wonderful experience. Jude Law was a brilliant choice to have the honour of portraying the younger version of one of the most famous wizards in entertainment. We immediately recognized the magical twinkle in his eye and the spring in his step, which makes him so undoubtedly Dumbledore.
New characters like Leta Lestrange (portrayed by the epic Zoë Kravitz) have their stories told in wonderfully creative ways in The Crimes of Grindelwald. Each new character developed the magical story, which will reach conclusion when the fifth movie in the Fantastic Beasts franchise is released. Familiars like Tina (reprised by Katherine Waterston), Queenie (reprised by Alison Sudol) and Jacob (reprised by Dan Fogler) return and we love how these characters are developed in The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The plot twists are as epic as ever and you’ll constantly be surprised in The Crimes of Grindelwald. The movie was exciting as only a wizarding movie can be and new and cemented fans will be thoroughly entertained and delighted. There are plenty of action scenes and suspense for the adrenaline lovers, which provide tons of laughter too. The movie also doesn’t lack in heart or touching on important issues like LGBT relationships, child abandonment, abuse, etc.
The Crimes of Grindelwald is visually unmatched by any movie released this year. If you can, you should experience it in 3D on the big screen. There are plenty of scenes that take your breath away and you’ll be delighted by the lovely locations brought brilliantly to life in The Crimes of Grindelwald. The magical locations are also awe-inspiring, with every detail taken care of in The Crimes of Grindelwald. The magical creatures look like they could actually exist in real life. The entire movie was put together beautifully, while being accompanied by an epic score.
The Crimes of Grindelwald is the perfect sequel to the 2016 Fantastic Beasts movie and has ensured that the franchise is set for a successful five-movie run. In terms of visual effects, The Crimes of Grindelwald is one of the most beautiful and visually thrilling films of 2018. We welcomed back familiar faces and enjoyed the introduction of new characters.
Newt and his magical creatures have firmly cemented themselves into our hearts and we can’t wait to go one three more adventures with them.
