Fortnite – 13+

Fortnite may be the only game on the list that we recommend to teenagers and up only because of its addictive nature and the fact that it relies on you playing with other people around the world which opens up opportunities for your child to be exposed to online trolls. We are not saying it always happens but it is a precaution. Fortnite sees you and 99 other players head onto an island to fight to be the last one alive. The game features cartoon violence and has a fast-paced action feel to it. It’s fun, in doses.

FIFA – 8+

It goes without saying that FIFA is a great game to play with your kids. Its couch co-op gameplay and various game settings tailored for all skill levels make it a fantastic sports game to play with the whole family. While we do recommend you stay away from the Ultimate Team mode, the rest of the game offers a wide range of modes and teams to take with you to dozens of stadiums across the world. Why not start them young we always say?

Knack 2 – 12+

While the first Knack game was not the best ever made, the second one introduced a fantastic co-op mechanic that makes the game a must-play for anyone who loves co-op couch gaming with their child. You and your child will have to work together to beat the Goblin uprising but the working together part is the best mechanic. You can chain together attacks to perform ultimate moves and use each other as actual weapons in the most intense fights. The game features a great level of platforming and combat to make any gameplay session fun together.

Skylanders – 7+

If you love the platforming Knack with the racing of Mario Kart and the toys of LEGO Dimensions then Skylanders is your game. There are a couple of entries in the series each with their own story but they all have one thing in common – the awesome toys. Each Skylander game runs on a set of cool toys that you can buy and when placed on the portal they come to life in the game. You then explore the game and complete the story with your toy character that you have bought. The entire game is also playable in co-op so it makes for a great game to experience with your little one.

Just Dance – 12+

If you have a child that loves to dance around and go crazy (we all know at least three) then Just Dance is your game. The game sees you dance along to some of the world’s best tunes as you try to copy the dance moves it is trying to teach you. From Ariana Grande to Lady Gaga, the game has it all. It supports up to six players so you can host an entire dance party for your child and their friends. Give them the game and let them dance for hours before collapsing into bed.

Pokemon GO – 13+

Pokemon GO is the only game on this list that forces you to head out into the world with your kids and explore it. You can set up a whole day around the experience and head to SA’s biggest Pokemon GO areas, have a picnic and catch some Pokemon while you are at it. Its a fun and rewarding experience especially if you are both hunting the same Pokemon and fighting in the same gym.
