Gamers often fit into stereotypical boxes where they are meant to be unhealthy, overweight and just not very active. That is actually not the case. Modern gamers are actually pretty fit and health conscious. There are a lot of games out there that help keep gamers fit without them even knowing it. These games target being active and incorporate some sort of body movement while you are enjoying the game, meaning you are actually burning calories too. Here are some great video game fitness games that gamers should try if you want to workout while gaming at the same time.

Just Dance

Those of you who have never played a Just Dance game, are missing out on a good old party. Developed by Ubisoft, the Just Dance games challenge gamers by instructing them to dance according to the dancer on screen. Every game has a wide selection of tunes to dance to from world-famous artists like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Queen and much, much more. Every song is carefully choreographed to offer a unique dance that is unlike any other in the game.

The best part of all, it is a workout. You may not think it is but the more you play it, the more you realize that it is moving every part of your body and you are doing some serious cardio at the same time. After a while, you will start to sweat, your joints will begin to ache and your feet will hurt as you move your body to the music. The games even have a dedicated fitness mode that contains high-octane dance versions of some songs. These are tougher and faster and are made for you to break a sweat.

Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO is a no-brainer when it comes to its emphasis on fitness as a large chunk of the game’s progression relies on you walking around to discover Pokemon, get to PokeStops and even hatch eggs that contain exclusive Pokemon. Pokemon GO has grown tremendously over the past few years and Niantic is always releasing new Pokemon generations that lure players back into the game to catch, evolve and fight with.

But the game is pretty much pointless if you don’t make an effort to walk around in the real world and find Pokemon. Sure, you could just sit in one spot at home and hope that a Pokemon spawns on you but you will never hatch eggs, get more PokeBalls and items and you won’t fight in any gyms or do any Raids. If you do walk on a daily basis, then open up Pokemon GO and get that walk to contribute to your egg hatching distance.

Beat Saber

Those of you who love VR will love Beat Saber. Basically, the game is a rhythm slasher experience that sees you swinging your arms in the air as you smash blocks to the beat of a song. Best of all, you swing your arms around using the Oculus Rift controllers or PlayStation Move Controllers as if they were Light Sabers from Star Wars. So, it feels pretty cool as you try to complete the stage.

The game has a wide selection of tunes to play and various difficulties to complete that increase the speed of the blocks, the amount of them that spawn and challenge of slashing them all while tapping your feet to the tune you select. The harder the challenge, the harder the workout as your arms never stop moving around and you start to burn some serious calories at the same time.

Zombies, Run!

Zombies, Run! is a pretty old game but it is still the best way to run. Imagine the zombie apocalypse takes place and you need to run for your life? Well, the game is just that and a lot more. Zombies, Run! takes you outside and while you are on your daily walk or run, it will challenge you to survive an onslaught of zombies at random times which means you will need to speed up and try and escape them.

Best of all, the mobile app has a great story behind its mechanics so you are not just running for the sake of things, rather you are actually getting engrossed in the world through the app which then influences your decisions and motivation in the real world. You can even build a base by collection resources you find while out and about running and jogging. Let’s face it, the zombie apocalypse is never going to happen so at least we can pretend we are running away from zombies.
