Black Panther was a huge success, so it came as no surprise to anyone that Black Panther 2 would be happening. What is VERY surprising though is that Michael B Jordan has been confirmed to be part of the sequel.
Spoiler Alert – This article contains spoilers for 2018’s Black Panther and possibly Black Panther 2.
Angela Bassett, who portrays the role of Queen Mother of Wakanda in Black Panther, has spilled the tea on what we can expect from Black Panther 2 during the 2019 SAG Awards ceremony. When one reporter asked Angela Bassett whether the full cast will be returning for Black Panther 2, she replied “I would assume so“, before her husband, Courtney B Vance, interjected saying:
Yes, just go ahead and say it, yes! Everyone will be there, including Michael B Jordan.
If you may remember at the end of Black Panther, that Michael B Jordan’s character, Erik Killmonger, doesn’t seem to make it out alive. However, this new revelation could change all that. When asked about the seemingly “death scene” in Black Panther, and whether that doesn’t suggest that Micheal B Jordan, won’t in fact return because his character looks like he was killed off, Courtney B Vance remains unconvinced
[We didn’t technically see him] go into the ocean, no.
Whether this revelation is true, or not, remains to be officially confirmed by Marvel or anyone else working on Black Panther 2, including Michael B Jordan himself. Black Panther 2 will be directed Ryan Coogler, who directed the first Black Panther movie. And it’s safe to assume that the major characters, including T’Challa aka Black Panther (portrayed by Chadwick Boseman) and his techie sister, Shuri (portrayed by Leticia Wright) will be returning for the sequel.
Black Panther went on to win the 2019 SAG Awards for Outstanding Cast Performance and Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble. The movie was also recently nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture category, making superhero movie history.
