The first trailer for the new Spider-Man movie, Far From Home has been unleashed. As Tom Watts did in the first Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Homecoming, he has put awesome subtle references in the trailer for the new Spider-Man, which is set to swing into cinemas later this year.
Subtle Spider-Man Villain References
The trailer for the new Spider-Man has a few subtle references to the original Spider-Man comics, created by the late and great Stan Lee. These references seem to point to The Elementals, consisting of Hydro-Man, Sandman, and Molten Man.
One of the references is a number on a boat – “Asm 212”. This refers back to 1981 comic book The Amazing Spider-Man #212. In this book, Morris Bench aka Hydro-Man made his debut.
The second reference to The Elementals features Samuel L. Jackson’s characters, Nick Fury. In the new trailer, we’re shown a shot where he faces off against what appears to be Sandman aka William Baker, who made his debut back in 1963 in The Amazing Spider-Man #4. A number plate, with the numbers 463 on it is seen in the shot. This number is a subtle reference to the comic that introduced Sandman.
The last reference is another subtly placed number on a number plate (2865 SEP), referring to Mark Raxton aka Molten Man’s debut comic book. The Amazing Spider-Man #28 introduced Molten Man in September 1965.
Cheque From Pepper
Seeing as Spider-Man: Far From Home is coming out after Avengers: Endgame, it’s safe to assume that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker aka Spider-Man survived Thanos’s wipeout from Avengers: Infinity War.
We’re not sure if Tony Stark ends up making it, but we now know that his beau, Pepper Potts (portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow) makes a donation to a charity. Spider-Man makes a press appearance and Happy Hogen (portrayed by Jon Favreau) carries in a giant cheque signed by Stark Enterprise’s CEO, Pepper Potts.
