Pokemon Day is tomorrow, 27 February. The date marks the release of the first Pokemon video game, Pokemon Red and Green, in 1996 in Japan on the same date. This year’s Pokemon Day will have some fun Pokemon GO activities.

From 26 February to 28 February 2019 the following Pokemon Day fun can be had in Pokemon GO:

  • Pokemon that Trainers encounter early on in their adventures through the Kanto region will appear more frequently in the wild.
  • Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region will be available to challenge in raids.
  • Pikachu and Eevee wearing flower crowns will make a special appearance as Field Research encounters and in the wild. Flower evolutions will be available for Eevee too, including Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Umbreon, Espeon.
  • In celebration of Pokemon Day, you may even encounter Shiny Pidgey and Shiny Rattata.

That’s some fun celebrations. One of our favourite features in the game for this Pokemon Day is the Pikachu and Eevee with the flower crowns. We’ve previously encountered Pikachu with a birthday hat to celebrate the launch and anniversary of Pokemon GO as well as Pikachu with Santa Clause hats for the Festive Season.

This Pokemon Day event in Pokemon GO could give Trainers the ability to fill up their Kanto Podexes, seeing as Pokemon from this region will be encountered more frequently in the wild and at raids. This is handy for Trainers who have only a few Pokemon left to fill up the Kanto Pokedex or for Trainers to start off their Pokedexes too.

This year’s Pokemon Day marks the 23rd anniversary of the first release of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan, with Pokemon Blue released in Japan later that same year. Since then, there have been a plethora of different Pokemon games, movies, toys, shows, and so much more.
