A new survey has revealed which are the most hacked passwords in the world. So, if you’ve got one of the these commonly hacked passwords, then it might be time for a change.
The survey was conducted by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre and looked at the hacked password used by people all over the world. Some of the more popular hacked passwords are numerical passwords, with 123456 being the most hacked password in the entire world, followed by its big brother 123456789. A massive 23.2 million people use the standard counting method for their passwords, which makes it easy to see why they’ve become so common to hack. Various different lengths of this numerical password are on the top 10:

But aside from the obvious ones, there are also other commonly hacked passwords that are pretty popular amongst people. These include iloveyou, Blink182, dragon, monkey, and Superman.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre suggests that you use three random, but easily memorable terms when choosing a new password. This can make it harder for a password to be hacked and your accounts to become compromised. The National Cyber Security Centre goes on to warn against using the same password for multiple accounts. It also suggests you avoid easily hacked passwords like your name, local football team, or favourite band.
Password re-use is a major risk that can be avoided – nobody should protect sensitive data with something that can be guessed, like their first name, local football team or favorite band. Using hard-to-guess passwords is a strong first step and we recommend combining three random but memorable words. Be creative and use words memorable to you, so people can’t guess your password.
