We finally have a title and a teaser trailer for the final chapter in the Skywalker saga. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker got its first teaser trailer as Star Wars Celebration weekend kicked off in Chicago, USA.
Fans have been waiting a long time for any sort of news for the upcoming movie that will end off the Skywalker storyline that was started all the way back in 1977 with the release of A New Hope.
The Rise of Skywalker was directed by J.J. Abrams who rebooted the Star Wars Skywalker storyline, and brought us The Force Awakens in 2015. He explained during a panel discussion at Star Wars Celebration, that The Rise of Skywalker takes place after 2017’s The Last Jedi, which was directed by Rian Johnson.
In this first glimpse we’ve seen of The Rise of Skywalker, we see Daisy Ridley’s Rey pull off some seriously skilled Jedi moves, channeling the lessons Luke Skywalker (portrayed by Mark Hamil) gave her in The Last Jedi.
In The Rise of Skywalker, we will see footage of the late and great Carry Fisher as she reprised her iconic role of Leia Organa which was shot during the making of The Force Awakens. In the trailer, we also get a brief glimpse of Billy Dee Williams’s return as Lando Calrissian. Other stars who will be reprising their roles for The Rise of Skywalker include John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Anthony Daniels as C3PO and many more.
One of the most shocking character returns hinted at in the teaser trailer is Emperor Palpatine (portrayed by Ian McDiarmid). At the end of the teaser for The Last Skywalker, we hear his notorious evil crackle.
The Rise of Skywalker will be releasing on 20 December 2019.
