If you have somehow been born under a rock, or yesterday or in the 1800s, then you may not have noticed that video games are HUGE. Their consumer power and popularity has only levelled up over the last 10 years, with every year bringing exciting new video games.

These 10 video games have completely changed the game for us in the past 10 years, and pathed the way for an exciting new decade of gaming.

Dark Souls (2010)

The decade started off with a bang in terms of video games thanks to the epic release of the Dark Souls in 2010.

This game is considered a classic and one of the best games ever created. It has spawned some insanely awesome sequels, with Dark Souls III (2016) being one of our favourites.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)

When we first played Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, we were blown away.

The storytelling and indeed every detail of the game will swallow you. Every element of Skyrim is tied together to create another world, one that you can step into and be lost in for hours on end. It’s true escapism at its best and one of our favourite video games of the decade.

Destiny (2014)

Destiny was one of the most anticipated games of 2014 and we believed it lived up to its hype.

Not only was the game an actual blast to play, but it was also extremely popular amongst gamers. And thanks to its different game modes and vast world, Destiny continued to be a favourite long after its release.

Fallout 4 (2015)

Everyone had Fallout fever in 2015. It was one of those video games that was seen everywhere, and played by almost everyone.

Fallout 4 is a video game that every avid gamer should play. We highly recommend it.

Pokémon GO (2016)

When this mobile game came out in 2016, LITERALLY everyone and their grandmother was running around, trying to catch ’em all.

Pokémon GO is one of those video games that seemed like it could transcend all barriers and be appealing to the entire world’s vast demographics. It was a hit with everyone, and there are many reasons us, and other people are still playing this game that brought mobile gaming truly to the masses.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016)

We’re really not exaggerating when we say that EVERYONE was playing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End when it came out in 2016.

It’s such a good game, that we totally get why everyone had to have a go at it. It will forever be remembered as one of the best video games that came out in the previous decade.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)

When we first played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 2017, we fell in love with this new adventure game in a classic series.

What makes Breath of the Wild stand out from the other Zelda games, is its take on open-world exploration, with a touch of survival. It was also one of the first video games we experienced on the new Nintendo Switch which obviously made the entire experience stand out in a decade dominated by many new video game releases.

Fortnite (2017)

While no one was looking, Fortnite dropped in and took over the video gaming world in 2017.

In fact, Fortnite is still going strong into the new decade with it being the biggest earner of 2019 bringing in almost $2 billion! It’s a game that continues to dominate the gaming scene. Fornite completely changed the game, not only for battle royale games but for gaming and pop culture in general.

God of War 3 (2018)

God of War is well known as one of the best franchises in the gaming world and one of Sony’s flagship exclusives.

God of War 3 was one of the best iterations of the series bringing more feeling this time around without sacrificing the gameplay. It’s a truly epic game that should be played by everyone that has a Playstation.

Borderlands 3 (2019)

Not only a fan favourite, but a winner amongst anyone who loves looting and shooting.

Borderlands 3 is one of the best games from the past decade and we are delighted that this gem rounds up the best video games of the last 10 years.
