Amazon takes Kindle to Blackberry
Amazon.com has announced a beta version of Kindle for BlackBerry, a reader app for its Kindle ebooks that runs on quite a few BlackBerry devices. The Kindle for BlackBerry app will allow users to read Kindle ebooks, sync their bookmarks and annotations with Kindle readers or the Kindle application for PCs, as well as search for new ebooks from the Amazon Kindle Store. This is the latest expansion of the Kindle platform. Amazon also has Kindle applications for PCs and the Apple iPhone.
“Since the launch of our popular Kindle for iPhone app last year, customers have been asking us to bring a similar experience to the BlackBerry, and we are thrilled to make it available today,” said Amazon’s Kindle VP Ian Freed, in a statement on Thursday last week. “We think customers are going to love how easy and fun it is to read their Kindle books on their BlackBerry.”
The application is currently in beta, but is a free download. Users can control the text size, create bookmarks and view existing annotations in their ebooks, access previously-purchased ebooks from Amazon’s servers, and (of course) search and browse over 420,000 books from Amazon’s Kindle store directly from their BlackBerry. The Kindle app for BlackBerry also displays books in full color.
The Kindle for BlackBerry app supports the BlackBerry Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Curve 8520, Curve 8900, Storm 9530, Storm 9550, and Tour 9630 models.
