The Strokes recording new album without Julian Casablancas

The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas says the band are recording the new album without him in studio.

He rekons the reason for this is so that he doesn’t interfere. He is leaving them to work on the music and he will come in later on his own to add the vocals.

“I think they [the other band members] did a good job,” he told ABC News. “Just tracking the songs. It’s been nice to get my hands on it.”

His explanation for this; “I thought honestly it would be a good chance for them to kind of…”

“I’m pretty opinionated. Nothing pushy to the point of it’s my way or no way, but I’ll hear a song and be like, ‘Hmmm, it feels like the bass should be like something different’. Whereas if I feel like I wasn’t in the room then they could just kind of spread their wings.”

He also added, “sounds probably more like the last record [2006's 'First Impressions Of Earth'], but I think I might funk it up a little”.

The Strokes are set to play the Isle Of Wight festival on June 12 then Rock Ness in Scotland on June 13. Casablancas admitted that the motivation behind agreeing to play them was money.

“Should I say the truth? Money,” he said when asked why the band agreed to play the shows. “Yeah. The offers were so crazy that we had to say yes.”

The Strokes recording without their frontman? I am very interested to see  how this works out and this “funk” that Casablancas speaks of.

I have waited a long time for these indie giants (bit of an oxymoron there) to release again and I rekon this album is going give me that “Reptillia” moment I had on their 2nd album, when I was thinking there is no ways in hell they can reproduce music as good as their 1st album, but then Reptilla came on and I found myself wanting to shout out “STTRRRRROOOOOOOKKKKESSSS”, who the hell am I kidding, I totally shouted it and I so badly want this album to give me a similar rush of emotion.
