Google has announced that they will be adding a new feature to their search results, the ability for users to “like” the results served to them by clicking the +1 button. Google has been trying hard to make search results more personal, more social with your friends opinions shaping the results that you see, this is a big step in that direction.

What is very interesting is the effect this will have on Adwords paid search ads. Not only will marketers now be trying to get cheap clicks, but now they will be trying to get users to recommend their services and adds, providing a tangible amount of influence to their friends. The big question is “Will ads that have lots of +1′s perform better?” The only downside to this is that it will only work with you Google/Gmail/Gtalk contacts. It would be really cool if you could integrate your real friends through Facebook or at least your twitter contacts.Anyway its definately something to keep a close eye on.
